Boston Rent Control Law (fourth) is adopted.

December 24, 1975

The ordinance is approved by the Boston City Council and signed by Mayor Kevin White. It reduces the number of rental units covered from 140,000 to 60,000, exempts “luxury apartments,” and introduces a “vacancy decontrol” provision that removes apartments from protection when they become vacant, as one-third of them do every year in Boston at this time.
